Inspired by Judith Schalansky’s book “Atlas of Remote Islands: 50 islands I never set foot in and never will”, the debut of the chamber improvising trio of Fie Schouten on clarinet & basset horn, Vincent Courtois on cello and Guus Janssen on piano, organ, harmonium & harpsichord reflect on these pristine and untouched areas of the earth in sublimely sophisticated conversation. VOSTOK Remote Islands is het nieuwe album en gelijknamige project van het trio Fie Schouten,
Vincent Courtois en Guus Janssen (klarinetten, cello, toetsen). Aan de basis van de muziek ligt een
boek van Judith Schalansky: De atlas van afgelegen eilanden. Ondertitel: Vijftig eilanden waar ik
nooit naartoe ben geweest en ook nooit zal komen.
Ieder stuk op VOSTOK Remote Islands klinkt als een eigen eiland, bewoond of onbewoond. De muziek rijst op uit een windstille oceaan. Plotseling een nieuw stuk land in zicht. Het trio Schouten, Courtois, Janssen tast voor velen onbekend gebied af en improviseert gedrieën een muzikale flora en fauna bij elkaar……je bent als luisteraar deelgenoot van eenzelfde ontdekkingstocht…..
